How to Care for Your Cotton Streetwear

How to Care for Your Cotton Streetwear

Premium cotton streetwear — especially acid wash and heavyweight tees — deserves proper care to keep it looking fresh wash after wash. Follow these simple tips to protect your investment and extend the life of your favourite pieces.

1. Wash Inside Out

Always turn your tee inside out before washing. This protects the outer surface, preserves the acid wash texture, and prevents graphic prints from cracking or fading. It's the single most effective habit you can build.

2. Use Cold Water

Hot water causes cotton fibres to shrink and colours to bleed. Wash your streetwear in cold water (30°C or below) to maintain the fit and keep the washed-out tones looking intentional, not washed out.

3. Gentle Cycle Only

Heavy agitation breaks down fabric faster. Use a gentle or delicate cycle, especially for heavyweight 240–260 GSM cotton tees. The fabric is dense and durable, but rough machine cycles will wear it down over time.

4. Avoid Bleach and Harsh Detergents

Bleach will destroy the acid wash effect and weaken cotton fibres. Use a mild, colour-safe detergent. If you're washing dark or heavily dyed pieces, a detergent designed for darks is ideal.

5. Air Dry When Possible

Tumble drying on high heat is the fastest way to shrink your tee and damage the fabric. Lay flat or hang to air dry in the shade. If you must use a dryer, use the lowest heat setting.

6. Iron on Low Heat (If Needed)

If your tee needs ironing, do it inside out on a low heat setting. Avoid ironing directly over any graphic prints. Better yet, steam it lightly to remove creases without direct contact.
